The Blue Ridge Parkway
runs due South of Skyline Drive for 469 miles through Virginia and North
Carolina. It is without doubt some of the most scenic country we have ever
ridden through. The stretch of road from Roanoke, Virginia to Ashville,
North Carolina is about 240 miles of mostly wonderful sweepers through some
great farm land. We made pretty good time on this leg of the trip but
didn't get to take as many pictures. What we did get to take are a decent
cross section of the kind of scenery we experienced. Although the Parkway
runs through some National Forests it is not a National Park but is
designated a National Scenic Byway. No commercial traffic is allowed and
the speed limit is 45 mph. The roads are well kept and marked but there is
no shoulder and in many cases there is no guard rail.
